COACHING - GETTING STARTED

Getting started with coaching House League Baseball

  • Respect in Sport Certification (required for all coaches)
  • Initiation Coach Online Module through the National Coaching Certification Program (recommended for all, mandatory from 11U and up)
  • In-house clinics offered by South Jasper Place

Respect in Sport Certification

If you have completed Respect in Sport through another sport you can transfer that certificate to your Baseball Alberta. You will need your certificate number which might look like HB-2Y-Y4J7.

  1. Go to http://baseballalberta.com/.
  2. Click on Coaches tab at the top and then mouse over and click the Respect In Sport link.
  3. Follow the links to the Respect in Sport site and then either Import your certificate or Create a new profile.
  4. If you need to do the Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders the program will probably take a couple of hours to go through where you will view videos and go through various scenarios. It does not need to be done at one sitting. Upon completion you will receive your certificate. Keep all receipts for reimbursement.

The NCCP Certification for Baseball

  1. Go to http://baseballalberta.com/.
  2. Click on Coaches tab at the top and then mouse over and click the NCCP Requirements link.
  3. You can use the table listed to check the requirements for your level. House League is considered ‘A’ level and the two mandatory requirements are the Online Initiation Module and Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders.
  4. If you are new to the NCCP program you will need to register by following the link at the top of that page and create an account with NCCP. New users will have to complete the On-Line Module first which will require a payment. Keep all receipts for reimbursement. The module will take a few hours to complete.
  5. Further coaching development can be done by completing in-person clinics. Information for these clinics can be found at https://nccp.baseball.ca/.

In-house clinics with South Jasper Place

The SJP In-House coaching clinics will be held prior to the beginning of each season. The sessions are mostly geared toward people who are coaching the younger kids (who may not have much baseball coaching experience), but all coaches are welcome. The clinics will be put on by our Technical Directors. Information about the current season's clinics will be under the COACHING menu.
